Facebook is emerging as a global leader of social media revolution . In the very short time, Mark Zuckerberg has established and developed himself as a mark of excellence. He is the youngest billionaire as of 2011 in the whole world keeping his total tally of income 13.5 billion dollars. He also received the Times Person of the year award for the year 2010.
Facebook has been into a number of controversies.People like Divya Narendra,Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have claimed that Zukerberg has broke an oral contract to build facebook for them and illegally used the source code that belong to these three people. After a prolonged session of judging, Facebook has to an amount of 65 million dollars in cash and stock to settle out this issue. On April 12, 2011, a 3-panel judge of Federal appeals court in San Francisco declared that Winklevoss brothers cant back out of the settlement they signed with Facebook in 2008.This all happened due to the fight that arises over the origin issue of Facebook as narrated in the movie "The Social Network"'.
Similarly Aaron Greenspan created a site for the Harvard students in 2003 named as "Universal Face Book" or "The Facebook".Zuckerberg purchased the site but Aaron claimed that he ripped him off at a time, stole and trademarked the term "Facebook". Greenspan's company "Think Computer Corporation" has filed a petition to cancel trademark of Facebook which included claims of prior use and fraud by Facebook, Inc. against the USPTO. The matter is still in court.
Another person named Paul Ceglia filed a lawsuit against Zuckerberg claiming 84% ownership of Facebook as well as additional monetary damages. According to Ceglia, he and Zuckerberg signed a contract on April 28, 2003, that for an initial fee of $1,000, entitles Ceglia to 50% of the website's revenue, as well as additional 1% interest per each day after January 1, 2004, until website completion. Zuckerberg was developing other projects at the time, among which was Facemash, the predecessor of Facebook, but did not register the domain name thefacebook.com until January 1, 2004. Facebook management has dismissed the lawsuit as "completely frivolous".Judge Thomas Brown of Allegany Court issued a restraining order on all financial transfers concerning ownership of Facebook until further notice.
The latest Controversy that is created by the world's most feared man-Jullian Assange, CEO WikiLeaks. He has made a statement which reflect that Facebook has been monitored by the US intelligence. They have got the direct access to the records of Facebook. He represented Facebook as "appalling spying machine" in an interview to the Russia Today. In his words :-
“Facebook is the most appalling spying machine that's ever been invented,"
“Here we have the world's most comprehensive database about people, their relationships, their addresses and locations, their communications with each other - all sitting within the United States and all accessible to US intelligence.”
“Facebook, Google, Yahoo – all these major US organisations - have developed an interface for US intelligence teams,” ...
“It's not a matter or serving a subpoena – they have developed an interface for them to use."
“It's not a matter or serving a subpoena – they have developed an interface for them to use."
“If we look at our work over the last 12 moths, think about that. All these stories that have come out actually happened in the world, before 2010, but people didn’t know about it. So what is it that we don’t know about now? There’s an enormous hidden world out there that we don’t know about. It exists there right now.”
“We only released secret, classified, confidential material. We didn’t have any top secret cables. The really embarrassing stuff, the really serious stuff wasn’t in our collection to release. But it is still out there.”
When the whole world is frightened by the revelations of WikiLeaks in several governmental affairs and conspiracy issues, at this alarming moment of instability Asssange came out with a strong point of accusation.Lets wait for the official response of Facebook into this matter.
